Grandma's Pancakes Helping Out

April is Autism Awareness Month. For my friend Sarah this is a very important month, as Autism is a daily reality for her amazing son Prestyn who is 3. Sarah and her family have struggled and sacrificed and done everything imaginable to help their son.... including, sending him to Shining Stars Pre-School for Autistic children, which has made a HUGE difference developmentally in this little mans life. To try and show my support, I promised Sarah that during the month of April, 25% of every Grandma's Pancakes sold will be donated to Shining Stars Pre-School. Want to help but don't think you can because you dont have a Kindle? Dont worry- check out my "HOW TO" post on this blog for instructions on how to get your copy onto a phone, computer, ipad etc. Shining Stars teachers, parents, students, Sarah and myself thank you for your generosity and help!

Grandma's Pancakes

Grandma's Pancakes is, or will be, a series of children's books about a grandmother who makes very different looking pancakes, which lead grandma and her granddaughter on a series of wild adventures!
In the first (of many) books, A Knight Adventure, Grandma's pancake looks like a medieval sword, transporting the pair to a medieval tournament, where two knights fight for a beautiful princess. Other books (Just waiting for their turn to be published) include a trip to the pyramids, a visit with prehistoric dinosaurs, a tour of the solar system, an underwater exploration, a hunt for pirate treasure, an escape from explosive volcanoes, a trip to a farm and a day at a rollerskating rink.

The series is loosely based on my summers living with my grandmother in Iowa. Every morning during my summers in Iowa my grandmother would make me the most delicious, but ugliest, pancakes in the world. While other children stared at clouds and imagined seeing familiar people, objects and animals, I would do so with my grandma's amoeba shaped pancakes. Even though the pancakes never actually transported us to any far away places, her pancakes were one of many things that bonded us, and unbeknowst to a twenty something younger me, would lay the foundation for what I hope to become a very successful career as a children's writer.
Grandma's Pancakes has been in the works (aka- sitting dormant in my head) since its conception in 2004 shortly after the death of my grandmother. During my pregnancy I decided it was time to put the stories to paper.  Shortly after the birth of my daughter in 2010 I summoned the courage to send them out to children's publishers with fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed that an offer will be made for them. While I am still waiting to hear back from over a dozen publishing houses, we decided to try self publishing on Kindle in an effort to establish a solid fan base. It is our hope that we can take our wildly popular sale records (wishful thinking) to publishers as "proof" that taking a chance on this agentless writer would be well worth their time and investment.
It is my sincerest hope that you and your family enjoy reading  A Knight Adventure and will continue to support Grandmas Pancake's each and every time they have a delicious and incredible journey!
